Home Pest Control, Hints and Tips

Tips and hints for Home pest control
Agriculture is very old and perhaps gardening and pest control are equally old. It’s an industry that’s growing rapidly. The pest control business has grown more than 50 percent in the last 5 years or so, and nationwide it has become a $7 billion industry.

More and more homes are being built in remote locations. Desert or the woods where people want to live. When you’re building in these areas where insects and animals live, it’s their home. When your home becomes infested with bugs, thats when they become pests.

Gardening and Pest Control and what does it mean?

It’s basically the reduction or eradication of pests. There is a difference between pest control and structural pest control in that the one is control of creatures affecting plants, soil or lawn etc and the other is control of creatures such as termites which invade buildings or outhouses. To speak of gardens, plants and pesky weeds will often spill over into one’s home as well.

It is important to keep up with your gardening, and take preventative pest control measures to protect not only your gardens, but your heath as well. It is often ignored until pests and their damage are discovered or it has got out of hand. There are steps that one can take to help get rid of the problem at hand.

How Do We Control Pests in the Garden?

Gardening and pest control is viewed by many people as do-it-yourself job. To some extent, say upto a point that is fair enough. Determining the best pest control for your garden is much like getting a doctor’s diagnosis, you need to know what is causing the problem, what to use to eliminate the pest and how to prevent further injury. Through surveys, it has been discovered that homeowners often don’t read the instructions carefully or they alter them in ways they think will better solve their problem.

As a result, insecticide will be applied in too high a concentration, which may be dangerous for you or your houseguests. Naturally, we are talking about chemicals, since chemical pest control remains the primary method used in modern pest control. However, that said, the long-term effects of chemicals has led to a renewed interest in traditional and biological pest control towards the end of the 20th century.

If DIY is not your area of expertise concerning that of home pest control, consider the option of monthly visits from the local pest control company to keep garden troubles under control. One of the benefits of having monthly pest control is that somebody should be checking out your house and garden  on a regular basis for pest . Monthly pest control has one disadvantage and that is the home owners are keen that PCOs apply a chemical treatment every month irrespective of the fact whether there is a pest problem or not.

The usage of Home and Garden pesticides are very surprising:

1. In the lawns each year the amount of pesticides applied is 67 million pounds.

2. Agricultural acreage consumes far less pesticide than suburban lawns do.

Think before you spray a pesticide. You may kill the insects that are helping you keep pests in check. In the future, this will probably mean that you must bug bomb your home. There are benefits to having creatures that are often thought of as ‘pests’ in your garden; for one thing without them pollination cannot take place! Really powerful insecticides, such as malathion or carbaryl, are not a good idea. While these may seem to help, they actually provide only temporary control and kill more of the natural predators than the pests you are trying to eliminate. With their natural enemies eliminated, pest populations will rapidly multiply and you could end up with a bigger problem than you had before.

Most consumers also don’t realize how potentially harmful they can be:

1. Pesticides are easily tracked indoors, an EPA study found 23 pesticides in dust and air inside homes.Consumers don’t realize the dangers.

2. On a regular basis, the US Geological Survey locates garden chemicals that pose a threat to the environment. Weed Killers, for example are the most prevelant around urban centers streams and rivers.

It’s shocking to some people who feel we cannot live without these pest control methosds.
